Testbed in Sankt Augustin

Fraunhofer FOKUS NET4DC

Testbed

At the Fraunhofer Campus in Sankt Augustin, Germany a testbed to evaluate QoS-differentiated multi-technology Wireless Mesh Networks has been set up.

Our goal is to integrate cost and energy-efficient technologies and to develop, evaluate and refine routing protocols and self-management algorithms for near carrier-grade mesh networks in rural or developing areas. We aim at exploiting the self-configuration of spatial and frequency multiplexing parameters and coordinated medium access to create a mesh of quasi point-to-point links. The real world testbed is currently built upon IEEE 802.11, 802.16 and DVB-T technologies. This testbed is complemented with a real-time emulation environment to examine our mesh protocols at a larger scale of up to 1000 nodes.
