Macha Living Lab
For the living lab a small settlement has been connected to the Internet by using cost-effective network equipment. Ubuntu Campus is a small district of the village Macha located at the southern province of Zambia, about 280km away from the next big town Livingstone.
Using point-to-point wireless connections Ubuntu Campus has been connected to the centre of Macha located several kilometres away. At Macha a satellite connection to the Internet is already available. Inside Ubuntu Campus the network is distributed by WLAN. This way the local primary school, an Internet training centre, the office of the local water administration and further buildings have been connected.
Among other things the network is good for an on-road test to check whether the used components work among the climactic terms at the sub-sahara area and to analyse the local user behaviour. The network is already used frequently by the habitants of Ubuntu Campus for communication and information search.
