Projects

FOKUS.NET is engaged in national and international projects which design and evaluate wireless networks to establish reliable communication infrastructures in unconnected regions, including:

  • Wireless Backhaul Technology (WiBACK)

    When fixed line infrastructures are not available to provide backhaul connectivity, wireless links are an option for fast deployment at very low cost.

  • Communicate Green

    Communicate Green is about implementing an adaptive, context-aware and technology-comprehensive power management in radio networks by maintaining the high quality of experience at the same time.

  • Testbed in Sankt Augustin Birlinghoven

    At the Fraunhofer Campus in Sankt Augustin, Germany a testbed to evaluate QoS-differentiated multi-technology Wireless Mesh Networks has been set up.

  • Macha Living Lab

    For the living lab a small settlement has been connected to the Internet by using cost-effective network equipment. Ubuntu Campus is a small district of the village Macha located at the southern province of Zambia, about 280km away from the next big town Livingstone.

  • Research Project CARMEN for developing CARier grade MEsh Networks

    CARMEN, CARrier grade MEsh Networks, aims at studying and specifying a wireless mesh network supporting carrier grade triple-play services in future heterogeneous mobile/fixed network operator environments.
