Developing Tailor Made ICT Systems

What do remote villages in Zambia, Islands in Greece or in the Pampa of Argentina have in common? – Their harsh environment makes it challenging to provide a communication infrastructure, and the areas are sparsely populated. In addition, a huge percentage of the population in these kinds of emerging regions is suffering from insufficient knowledge of English and a lack of power supply, while the radio spectrum market is less competitive than in Western Europe.

Designing ICTs to install a communication infrastructure means to foster the economic, political and educational development in emerging countries. The Center believes that new communication technologies and innovative types of networks will emerge to serve the unconnected of the earth’s population.

ICTs are of paramount importance for the population in developing countries. They form the basis to introduce e-services like e-health, e-learning, e-government, e-commerce, or e-microbanking, for example. So NET4DC’s strategy is thus clear: developing tailor-made innovative ICT systems via R&D projects considering the specific requirements.
